Insta-worthy

There is so much interesting content on the socials.

Beautiful photography, catchy logos, and special effects, each one better than the last, fill my feed.

It’s tempting to join the fray, but I feel you need a few things before you travel down the ‘viral’ road.

My fellow teacher and friend, Inda, has been creating the beautiful videos on Instagram while I work on the messaging. She does ascetic work while any attempts at corny humor are 100% on me.

Our unique point of view is authenticity. Real Pilates for real people.

You won’t find perfection in our movements. You’ll find kindness, enthusiasm, truth and lots of laughter.

While it’s tempting to join the fray of of wannabe-be viral videos, I just want to be me. Here are a few BEs.

Be

- a subject matter expert with a unique point of view

- creditable, truthful and kind

- willing to hear feedback and

- strong enough to avoid abuse.

- inspired by great works

- Credit a source

- Speak truth to power

Creditable in Pilates goes to our Code of Conduct. Do no harm.

Truthful might seem self-explanatory, but when you deal with people’s health, it’s imperative to go a step further. Research what you think is TRUTH. Know the difference between your beliefs (pro/anti vax) and what scientifically has been proven (the Earth is round).

Kind isn’t lip service or nodding along - it’s contemplating whether or not your comment is necessary.

If you go out on a public platform, be willing to listen to constructive feedback and commentary. This is not to say you have to AGREE with them. Conversely, you don’t have to take abuse. Block, delete, and banish.

Be inspired! As a writer, I’m always buried in a book. As a Pilates teacher, I want to hear and see what great teachers and creators are doing. If inspired, I can attempt a fresh take.

Never, ever copy or steal. Content is as personal as a maxi pad and as important as a wallet. It has value.

Be willing to call out those who take advantage, mean ill will, or act like utter stinkers.

And be you. Everyone else is taken.

Bettina came to Pilates on her 50th birthday because the pain in her back and hips were taking a toll on her movement. Even sitting was difficult!

She was amazed how much her pain subsided after the first few lessons. The mind-body awareness coupled with full body strengthening changed her entire body …. and life.
