Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Bett Pilates?

Choosing Bett Pilates means prioritizing a movement practice that is as unique as your own body. Unlike "one-size-fits-all" fitness trends, our approach is rooted in the Classical Pilates method and tailored to meet you exactly where you are today.

Here is what sets us apart:

  • Expert Personalization: Bettina focuses on functional movement, ensuring that every exercise serves a purpose—whether you are recovering from an injury, training for an event, or simply looking to move without pain.

  • Precision & Safety: With a deep understanding of anatomy and alignment, we emphasize quality over quantity. You won’t just "do the moves"; you will learn how to engage the right muscles to protect your joints and build lasting strength.

  • A Mindful Environment: We provide a focused, professional space where you can escape the noise of a crowded gym. Our goal is to help you develop a stronger mind-body connection that carries over into your daily life.

  • Proven Equipment: Our studio is outfitted with industry-leading Balanced Body apparatus, offering the most versatile and effective resistance training available in the Pilates world.

At Bett Pilates, we don't just help you get fit; we help you move better for life.

Where can I find Pilates classes in Midland?

Bett Pilates has three locations in Midland, Texas.

Bett has a residential location called the Dunraven Studio and a mat and full equipment inside Grace Presbyterian Church called the Grace Studio. Bett’s third location is online!

What should I expect in my first Pilates class?

For your first class at Bett Pilates, you can expect a welcoming, personalized introduction to Traditional Pilates. Here is a quick breakdown of what to prepare for:

  • Intake & Paperwork: You will need to fill out an intake form before your first session to share your fitness history, goals, and any medical considerations. Bettina uses this to tailor the movement to your body's specific needs.

  • Initial Assessment: Since the studio focuses on meeting "the body where it is today," your first session will involve a basic movement assessment. Bettina observes how you move to ensure the exercises are safe and effective for you.

  • Personalized Instruction: Whether you are in a mat class or a private equipment session (using Balanced Body reformers, chairs, or towers), you will receive guided instruction on foundational Pilates principles like breath, core engagement, and alignment.

  • Environment: Expect a professional but approachable atmosphere. The studio emphasizes safety and "functional movement" over high-impact or "canned" exercise routines.

  • What to Bring: Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows for a full range of motion. Barefoot or grip socks are suggested.

Pro-tip: Note that there is a strict 24-hour cancellation policy, so be sure to confirm your schedule ahead of time!

Mat Classes vs. Private Sessions

At Bett Pilates, we offer two distinct ways to experience the benefits of the Pilates method. Here is how they differ to help you choose the right fit for your goals:

  • Mat Classes Focusing on the foundational work of Joseph Pilates, mat classes use your own body weight as resistance. These sessions are held in a small group environment at our designated mat location. They are excellent for building core strength, improving flexibility, and learning the "flow" of the Pilates sequence in a social, energetic setting.

  • Private Sessions These one-on-one sessions take place at our fully equipped studio using specialized apparatus like the Reformer, Chair, and Tower. Privates offer a highly personalized experience where Bettina tailors every movement to your specific anatomy, injuries, or fitness goals. The equipment provides both support and added resistance, allowing for a deeper level of precision and "fine-tuning" that is harder to achieve in a group setting.

What type of Pilates in Bett Pilates?

There are several flavors of Pilates. Traditional Pilates are a system of over 600 exercises created by Joseph Pilates with the philosophy of achieving good health means using the entire mind, body and spirit.  His exercises are considered the predecessor of Functional Movement. Classical and Traditional Pilates are closely related.

There are many variations of Joe’s original work - all of which can be fun and physically challenging.

Traditional Pilates uses the model of assessment, the corrective and the reassessment during every workout.

In private lessons: Rather than a canned list of exercises or focusing on a particular body part - the traditional Pilates practice meets the body where it is TODAY.

Why is NPCT certification important for a Pilates teacher and what does it mean to a Pilates student?

Being certified by an accreditation agency means a teacher has set standards for professional competency necessary to safely and effectively teach the Pilates method to everybody.

Certificate and certified are loose terms that can mean anything. Accreditation is a process of external quality review to verify that an institution or program meets established standards.

Bettina encourages all clients to ask their Pilates teachers. How did you train and where? What accredited certifications do you hold?
